The characteristics of Love

We have already established that God IS love.  He does not just give love, He embodies it.

“…and [then] the God of love [Who is the Source of affection, goodwill, love, and benevolence toward men] and the Author and Promoter of peace will be with you.” 2 Cor 13:11

“God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God…” 1 John 4:16

If God IS love, it makes sense that any description of love will be a description of God. Realizing this, I want to highlight some more characteristics of God according to 1 Cor 13. Each time I will substitute the word ‘Love’ with ‘God’:

• God endures long and is patient and kind; (v.4)
• God is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly; (v.5)
• God is not touchy or fretful or resentful; (v.5)
• God takes no account of the evil done to Him; (v.5)
• God does not rejoice at injustice; (v.6)
• God bears up under anything and everything that comes; (v.7)
• God is ever ready to believe the best of every person; (v.7)
• God never fails (v.8)

All these promises are true and find their answer in Jesus! This revelation suddenly puts many misconceptions about God in a different perspective! God is amazing. He is always better than we can imagine Him to be.
