The promises of God
Last night we spoke about God’s love being so perfect that it drives away all fear. The more we get to know His character, the more we will trust Him. I want to add to this tonight by saying that we can trust Him to fulfill every promise He has ever made. As humans we may many times make promises without fulfilling them – but God does not operate like this. He is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19).
“For I have said, Mercy and loving-kindness shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness will You establish in the very heavens [unchangeable and perceptual].” Ps 89:2
“…And your faithfulness is round about You [an essential part of You at all times}." Ps 89:8
So, without His faithfulness God wouldn't be God. It is an unchanging aspect of His character. That is incredible to know! Furthermore we are told:
"For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. ” 2 Cor 1:20
This verse clearly states that every promise God made in the Bible is fulfilled in Christ. They find their Yes (answer) in the work He did on the cross. That means, as one of many examples, if God swore He will never be angry at us again (Is 54:9), this is the truth. Our righteousness and perfection in God’s eyes is made possible by the redeeming work of Jesus. The same way every other promise of God is fulfilled in Jesus – you can trust Him.
“So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” Is 55:11
